OAK

We use FSC certified English oak from a local supplier in Devon. English oak has beautiful character with colour variations and small knots in places.

Oak is a natural material and, only on our oak supportive posts, superficial cracks may appear during the drying process. These cracks are entirely unavoidable and will not undermine the structural integrity of the sign. 

SLATE

Due to its superior qualities for external use, we use Brazilian Slate. The slate is hand split, in some cases resulting in natural undulations on the face of the slate sign. We do not use honed slate.

PLEASE EXPECT TO SEE NATURALLY OCCURRING CHARACTERFUL MARKS ON ALL NATURAL MATERIALS

WEATHERING

We use OSMO’s UV Protection Wood Oil as a finish on all timber. All slate is sealed with an exterior masonry sealant.

We cannot be held responsible for the natural weathering of external timber and slate. We can offer advice on how to give your products refurbishment. We are also happy to send you some relevant treatment if you wish.

We offer Corten and Stainless Steel signs also. These are a lot more suitable if you do not the like the natural weathering of external materials. Both are maintenance free and equally as attractive.
